UMBI Board of Visitor, James Brady,
Nominated to Become University System of Maryland Regent

Baltimore, MD-On Friday February 17th, Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. made his annual “Green Bag” appointment submission to the Maryland Legislature, and on this list included three new nominations for University System of Maryland’s (USM) Board of Regents. James T. Brady, a current member of UMBI’s Board of Visitors was one of these three nominations.

“This is an exciting opportunity, said Mr. Brady, and I am looking forward to working with the Institutions and other Regents to make our System the best in the country. Higher education and economic development are joined at the hip and this will be an interesting time to be on the USM Board of Regents.”

Mr. Brady has served on the UMBI Board of Visitors since March of 2003. He will step down from this advisory post prior to being sworn in as a member of the USM Board of Regents. Mr. Brady is no stranger to the Maryland community; he has served on several governing boards including Constellation Energy Group, McCormick & Company, Inc., Aether Systems, Inc., and T. Rowe Price Group, Inc. In addition, he often makes presentations to professional groups on issues relating to corporate governance and Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance.

“He is a man of true leadership, integrity and wisdom,” said Dr. Jennie Hunter-Cevera, president of UMBI. “As a business executive, public administrator, and member of our advisory board he has served the citizens of Maryland and this State very well. We will miss having him on our Board and know he will be a great addition to the talented team of Regents governing the University System of Maryland.”

Mr. Jim Brady spent most of his career with Arthur Andersen, an international accounting and consulting firm where he served as Managing Partner of the Long Island and Baltimore offices. He went on to serve as Secretary for the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and Managing Director of Ballantrae International Ltd.

He resides in Frederick, Maryland with his wife, Fran. He is Chairman of the Frederick County Business Development Advisory Council, a Trustee of Center Stage, Chairman of the Board of the B&O Railroad Museum and a member of the Maryland Humanities Council Board.
