October 10, 2005 New UMBI Senate Chair Appointed Baltimore, MD- UMBI is pleased to announce Dr. Mervyn Monterio as new UMBI senate chair. Dr. Monterio is a professor at UMBI's Medical Biotechnology Center and the Department of Neurology at University of Maryland, Baltimore. Dr. Monteiro's research is geared toward studying the mechanisms and treatments of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. The UMBI Senate is a representative body which is intended to provide an effective voice in the formation and implementation of UMBI policies and procedures. The Senate is meant to serve as both an advisory body to the President of UMBI and as the appropriate forum recognized by the Chancellor and Board of Regents of the University System of Maryland for the expression of the concerns and interests of the UMBI faculty, staff and students.
