September 9, 2005 Hurricane Katrina Assistance Baltimore, MD- UMBI facility and staff are very concerned about the devastation at the Gulf Coast Research Lab (GCRL) and other research institutions that we collaborate with in the Louisiana and Mississippi areas. We pray and hope that the entire GCRL faculty, staff, and students survived the devastating destruction of Hurricane Katrina. UMBI's Center of Marine Biotechnology (COMB) is prepared to support GCRL colleagues and students during the transition to rebuild the GCRL. We extend an invitation to all of the researchers and students at GCRL to come to Maryland and continue their marine bioscience research at COMB. UMBI's Central Administration and Center staff are committed to working with displaced colleagues to help them locate local accommodations, and assist students who are working on their dissertation at the University of Southern Mississippi and Jackson State Mississippi. In addition, family members of colleagues working at our CARB facility and displaced from Tulane University have also been provided with work space at UMBI's Rockville facility. UMBI and the University System of Maryland is committed to working with our displaced colleagues and their families during this difficult time. ### Celebrating our 20th anniversary year, UMBI is Maryland's premier biotechnology research institute within the University System of Maryland and was established in 1985. The University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI) consists of five major research and education centers and is dedicated to advancing the frontiers of biotechnology.
