March 4, 2008: MBC Director, Dr. W. Jonathan Lederer, was interviewed for an article for the Daily Record, Maryland's daily source for business and legal news. As the only USM recipient of one of Maryland's 3-year Stem Cell grants, he was asked to comment on the recent budget reductions made to the state's stem cell grant funds.
MBC researcher, Dr. Shengyun Fang also received a 2-year stem cell grant. Neither grant is affected by the budget reductions. However, the number of new grants will have to be sharply curtailed. As MBC faculty and others have already submitted grants for this year, the possible reductions will affect their chances of being funded.
