Baltimore, MD: MBC Director, W. Jonathan Lederer, was doubly honored this fall when he gave not one but two named lectures. Named lectureships commemmorate outstanding and influential individuals and are considered an honor to be invited to give.
On October 29, 2007, Dr. Lederer gave the 9th Annual Fred Fay Lecture at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. Dr. Fay was a pioneer in bioimaging. The title of Dr. Lederer's talk was "Shooting Sparks: Currents, Calcium and Confocals: the Legacy of Fred Fay."
That was quickly followed on November 3, by the 18th Annual Gordon Moe Lecture at the Cardiac Electrophysiology Society Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. The title of his talk was "From Calcium Sparks to Cell Electrophysiology."
When asked how he felt about this rare compliment to his work, Dr. Lederer said, "We all stand on the shoulder of giants in science, and Fred Fay and Gordon Moe are two of them. I feel incredibly humble to be able to honor their influence in my own work by talking to others about where their work has led my colleagues and me in our research endeavors."
