Collective Bargaining at UMBI
UMBI encourages eligible employees to learn as much as possible about Collective Bargaining. This web site will be updated as new information pertaining to UMBI employees is available. We encourage you to ask questions so that you are an informed voter, should the occasion arise. The Message from the Chancellor and the Message from the President were distributed in the Spring of 2001 and are repeated here for your reference. The Collective Bargaining Summary is a quick overview of the process, and the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) provide information about issues and details surrounding the collective bargaining process.
As of November 8, 2001, the State Higher Education Labor Relations Board (SHELRB) has met four times and has scheduled elections at 10 USM institutions. The Board has also issued proposed regulations to implement the Collective Bargaining legislation, which will undergo the normal process of review, comment, and final issuance of all state regulations.
If you do have questions about the collective bargaining process, please contact me at deshong@umbi.umd.edu. Your question might be a good one to add to the FAQs.
