Marine Molecular Microbiology
Marine biology uses the scientific method to study organisms that live in the ocean or other bodies of water. Molecular biology focuses on the structure and interaction of proteins, nucleic acids, and other molecules that carry out the processes required for life at the cellular level. Microbiology studies microorganisms and their interactions. So, putting this all together, marine molecular microbiology is focused on molecular studies of microorganisms that live in the ocean or other bodies of water.

Microbial Symbiosis
Because of their proximity to other organisms, microorganisms often become involved in close associations with others. When those close associations have beneficial or harmful affects for one or both of the associated species, this is known as symbiosis. Symbiosis is a natural product of biological evolution, in which organisms exploit various features of their environments to obtain energy and nutrients, shelter and other conditions that help them to survive and reproduce. Symbiosis arises because organisms of one species become features of the environment for other species by their proximity.

Drug Discovery
Drug discovery refers to the process whereby drugs are designed and developed. In the earliest stages of drug discovery, biological discoveries are used to find molecular targets within cells for the research and development of new drugs; this is a major area of biotechnology.
