Economically Important Viruses of Poultry and Fish
The diagnosis, prevention and control of viral infections in poultry and fish are of global economic importance.

Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) is highly contagious among young chickens, and has high mortality.

Infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) is a pathogen of major importance in the fishing industry and aquaculture.

The development of safe, economical and effective vaccines is the best way to combat these and related diseases in veterinary medicine.

Another important disease of chickens is avian reovirus. Analysis of the genomes (the complete complement of genetic material) of such viruses provides targets for development of new vaccines, diagnostic markers and treatments.
