CONSULTING, TEACHING, AND OTHER OUTSIDE PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY
UMBI's Office of Faculty Affairs administers to and facilitates faculty's interest to engage in outside professional activities such as:
- teaching for personal financial gain,
- consulting,
- service on scientific boards,
- an any other activities that may limit a faculty member's ability to conduct UMBI business in a timely manner.
In general, the faculty should keep the Center DIrector advised of any opportunity to conduct professional activities outside of UMBI prior to its commencement, even if the activity is congruent with UMBI's mission and the duties of a faculty within the academic community. Any outside professional activity with a biotechnology business entity (either paid or unpaid) and any other professional activity for pay must be approved by the Center Director and, if required by policy, the VP-EPAT. All faculty with approvals to engage in outside professional activity must submit a report of their activity annually, even if no activity was performed during the year.
Fauclty must submit the Request to Engage in Professional Outside Activity form and obtain approval before engaging in the activity.
Annually, during the Faculty Annual Review, a Annual Report of External Professional Activity form must be submitted as a component of the evaluation process.
Please look at the Professional Development page for guidance in teaching.
