UMBI is Maryland's primary research-intensive training institution for underrepresented minority students in marine biotechnology. Recently, UMBI's Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center program won renewal of a prestigious NOAA grant ensuring college and graduate training opportunities for students at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and other historically black colleges and universities across Maryland and the United States. UMBI is working to ensure that young people of all races can participate in the opportunities of the biotech economy.
